A dogs lifeThis one I like, written two years ago, and found in my Box O' Crap as I cleared it. There was no assignment, no school teacher ordered it, it was just something I wrote, right out of the blue, in the comfort of my own bedroom. My first horror story. It's funny, the random thoughts that pop into your head...
The old man sighed.
He glanced at the young boy at his side. The lad seemed to have attached himself to him. He didn't know where the boys family was, or even if they were still alive.
"How are we for supplies, lad?" he asked.
The boy checked the bag beside him.
"Five bottles of water, half a loaf of bread, a bag of apples and some cheese."
The old man shook his head.
"Not a lot. We'll have to get more later."
The boy looked around the blocked storm drain they were sheltering in. It was damp and smelly, but it was warm. And safe.
"How?" he quavered. "What about...?"
"I'll think of something."
There was silence.
"Sir?" the boy asked.
"How'd this happen?"
